Classic Noir or two films in one? What's in the box? What does the film have to say about women, men, and Greek Mechanics with a penchant for 'va va va voom'?

This was a crzy mix of many things. It's kind of unsettling when you expect a film to stick to it's genre, but then it doesn't.

I didn't make it to this (or any...*slaps own face*) screening, but I've seen this before and would like to comment.

Scott, why this one?
As you know I'm quite into noir, but this film has never appealed. I had high expectations for it, but when I saw it I found it so dull and kind of lame in parts. I don't quite know how to explain it other than that. I wish I could be more intellectual about it, but I really can't.

It was just a generally boring movie. I found The Postman Always Rings Twice (which I only saw today actually) to be a bit the same. Just very dull.

I recently saw This Gun For Hire finally, and enjoyed that. I'm waiting to watch Scarlet Street, by Fritz Lang. There have been many great films noir (The Lady From Shanghai, Gun Crazy, The Asphalt Jungle, Murder My Sweet, Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, Possessed, the Bogart numbers, etc)...but this isn't really one of them for me.

Why is it for you, Dr.?
