I hadn't noticed before how dirty the plasticine they use for Gromit is - there are a couple of shots where he's filthy, covered in smudges and such.I always find it fascinating to go back to earlier versions (Family Guy / South Park / Simpsons, for example) to see how the character design and voices have developed and evolved.
Yeah, that's true with a lot of things- you go back to the first episode/series and the characters are a little messier and not quite so defined- also true for comics like Asterix and Footrot flats. You can see the core of the character you know and love, but you still prefer what you normally get.I don't know how they do it, I can never draw a character to look the same again.
